I'm sorry to hear about this.  I had them once; it was horrible.

Is the Tuesday match going to be 6 stages?  Inquisitive reloaders would like to know?

General Discussion / Re: Cartridge length question
« on: May 15, 2017, 01:11:21 PM »
I know that some local shooters are running 125s crimped in the cannelure grove without problems.  Personally, I run a 140 gr or 158 gr crimped in the side of the bullet at a length of 1.52.  I started using this length because it ran well in a 1892 I had at the time.  It also runs perfectly in an 1873, 1866, and a Marlin 1894.

Yes, I know I really didn't help you answer your original question.

Great stages Jackalope, Kitty Kat and I had a great time.

Fellow shooters, I feel that there will be reasons to have a gunfight coming soon.

I've got an order in for .45 LC 200 gr. bullets from Ziggy, but they won't be in for a couple of weeks.  If you have a box of 200 gr. bullets laying around and are going to Oak Ridge tomorrow, I would love to have them.

I'm picking up some new toys and I'd like to shoot them as soon as possible.

It was good to see him again at the reunion match.  I am very sad to hear of his passing.

Jackalope's stages are always fun, I'm looking forward to it.   No cap and ball for this guy next week.  It was fun, but I need some recovery time.

General Discussion / Cap and Ball Questions
« on: April 27, 2017, 09:33:18 AM »
Just in case the ROAs make an appearance at MDR on Saturday, I'm compiling a check list.  I've only fired cap and ball revolvers twice in my shooting career.  The first time I had 5 of the 6 chambers chain-fire on me.  I fired a different revolver a year or two later and was not interested in the amount of work required to keep these guns running.

Please chime in if you think I need something not listed here to get my Ruger Old Armies up and running.

1. #10 Remington caps
2. .457 balls
3. FFF BP  (I was told 20 grains was the load)
4. nipple pick
5. nipple wrench
6. snail capper
7. small piece of deer antler
8. small knife to remove fired nipples
9. powder measure
10. bore butter or wonder wads
11. loading jig

I have everything listed above.  Let me know if I need something else.

Just a thought, if we're all shooting "cap guns", who's going to be doing all the work?  There can't be 5 of us at the unloading table.
