One of our local shooters recently suggested that we might be setting our targets too far away and, as a result, that might be keeping attendance down at our matches. So, for the Tuesday match, I placed the targets a little closer than usual. The handgun targets were set at about four paces instead of the usual five or six and the rifle targets were set around eight to ten instead of the usual eleven to thirteen. It appears that my experiment didn't have rave reviews. All five of today's shooters at lunch after the match agreed that the targets were too close, so I'll be making adjustments before the match on Saturday. I would also ask everyone to give feedback to their posse leader or to me directly regarding their preferences on target placement.
