Cartridge length question
« on: May 15, 2017, 11:09:00 AM »
What is the minimum overall cartridge length that will still function reliably in a 38/357 Magnum 1873 Winchester rifle?

Thanks,

I know that some local shooters are running 125s crimped in the cannelure grove without problems.  Personally, I run a 140 gr or 158 gr crimped in the side of the bullet at a length of 1.52.  I started using this length because it ran well in a 1892 I had at the time.  It also runs perfectly in an 1873, 1866, and a Marlin 1894.

Yes, I know I really didn't help you answer your original question.

Jackalope,

I use 105's or 125's at 1.43-1.44 in all 4 of my 73's and they run fine.
