Hi Everyone!
Off the bat I would like to thank those of you who welcomed my wife and I to your shoot at ORSA on July 8th. The genuine warmth of you all was infectious and you made it just plain fun to be there. No question was too silly and we had an enjoyable time. I still can’t get over the speed of you folks at the firing line.
A quick about me. I recently retired from Best Buy where I was a technical manager. I am a current member of ORSA. My wife and I raised two children in the Knoxville area, one became a high school teacher, the other a registered nurse. My wife was born in Maryland, I was born in England. We currently live in Roane County, Tennessee.
Building on that visit It appears I have caught the bug. The more I explore online, the further the hook gets set. That all being said, I would appreciate some pointers on moving forward. I have the basic attire under control I believe - or so my wife says - (you can and probably will let me know if not 😊)
My questions concern weapons.
I have a Marlin 1884CS 357/38 which is I think appropriate.
I have several Ruger single action revolvers however my only Vaquero is in 45 Colt. My wish is to stay with 357/38 for both rifle and revolvers and I am leaning towards a Stoeger Coachman 12 Gauge and possibly a pair of Ruger Vaqueros Model 5133
None of the above is in stone and I am wide open to suggestions since I am very much in the learning stage. I would absolutely appreciate any advice anyone can give. In addition, I would be interested in purchasing/trading with anyone who may have any available equipment that appertains to this discipline.
I will be registering with SASS today.
While I doubt my shooting skills will impress anyone, I truly look forward to the participation and hope that eventually I can give back to this sport.
I understand there is a “set-up” on August 6th I would like to attend and of course do any orientation that is available.
Thanks for reading this way too long post!
