March Set Up

We are planning to set up for the Oak Ridge Outlaw's March match on Sunday, March 4th, at around 1:30 pm.
We'll also experiment with some longer range shooting on the new bay between/behind stages 2 & 3. The intent is to explore the possibility of including a long range side match with the Oak Ridge Outlaw match eventually. If you have any suggestions or ideas how we can proceed, please let me know.
Bring out your big guns on Sunday afternoon!
Thanks in advance.

Will be at the set up. I did "study" the rules of long range as a outlined in the manual however I have a question.
While pistol caliber rifles - as in my 73 Uberti rifle and my Marlin, both in 38/357 appear to be legal, are they suited to long range CAS?
I would like to particpate but don't want to turn up with a peashooter.

Both the Uberti and Marlin can be very accurate at 100 yards. When I shot these rifles in long distance matches, I used .357 cases with a little more powder than a normal cowboy load.
If you are going to use your main match gun, two issues need to be addressed. First, if you have been shooting .38s in the rifle, you will have to clean the carbon build up out of the chamber to get the .357 to seat properly. Secondly, you will have to adjust your rear sight for the proper distance (the match with this rifle is shot at 100 yards in Cleveland). You will have to see how the rifle sighted for 100 will "behave" when shot at regular match distances. Otherwise you will be changing sight settings.
Most of the guys that shoot the long distance at Cleveland, on a regular basis, have a rifle dedicated to only shooting long distance.

...are they suited to long range CAS?...
Bring it Sunday and give it a whirl.
We haven't finalized anything yet, it's all still in the experimental stage.
The distance, course of fire, etc. are all items to be determined...hopefully, on Sunday.
I'm certain your rifles will be suitable.

I plan to be there on Sunday and will offer to hold an orientation class if any of the newer shooters would be interested. Bring what you have and let me know what you are missing and we will make sure there are some of what ever you need there to try out.

Long Gulch, El Paso Sliim, Tio Don, Leadhead, Hot Iron Larry, Tearin' Up Jake, Sheriff Langston, Tombstone, and Jim Mayo made up the set up crew today. Thanks, everyone!
