Long Range Ideas?
« on: February 28, 2018, 08:43:02 PM »
The Oak Ridge Outlaws will be experimenting with some long range shooting at the Action Pistol range after setup on Sunday, March 4th.  The goal is to include some long range side match opportunities right before our monthly matches.

Current thoughts include a 50 yard handgun target, 100 yard revolver-caliber rifle target, and a smaller 100 yard rifle-caliber target, for single-shots and repeaters.  (Not certain how deep that bay really is...so maybe farther?)

Five shots, most hits in shortest time wins or...?

Your ideas and suggestions are welcome!

If you have a SASS-appropriate gun and want to give it a try, come on out!

This sounds like fun.

Most hits 1st,  tie is determined by shorter time sounds fine.

Appreciate you pulling this together Jackalope

Maybe we can include .22s.  I know of one little Winchester that's chomping at the bit!

I do have a Ruger Single Six revolver in .22LR/.22WSM  with a 6.5" barrel.  Not sure if it's legal since it has an adjustable sight.

In the .45 Colt department I have two Rugers, one Blackhawk with adjustable sights and one Vaquero without.

Unfortunately none of my older .22 long guns are compliant - they are both bolt action.

The Ocoee long range guys allow adjustable sights on their pistols.

Thanks Mongo.

I'll probably be throwing my gun safe and contents in the back of the truck :)

Vaqueros will shoot fine for Long Range, it's just sight alignment and trigger control.

Randy is correct.  He's used those Vaqueros to beat me in a shoot off for first place for long range handgun at Black Gold in the past.

Anita proved that again today when she went five for five, duelist-style at 50 yards with her favorite 7 1/2 inch Vaquero in .45 Colt.
