Long Range Side Match
« on: April 06, 2018, 11:18:57 AM »
We'll have a long range side match prior to the Outlaw match on April 14th.  It will begin at 8:00 on the 100 yard bay behind the Action Pistol Range.  We will pick up the targets and return them to storage in time to attend the 9:00 main match safety briefing.

Competition will be separated into five divisions:
Handguns fired offhand at approximately 50 yards
Rim-fire rifles fired offhand at approximately 50 yards
Rifle caliber single-shots fired offhand at approximately 100 yards
Rifle caliber repeaters fired offhand at approximately 100 yards
Pistol-caliber rifles fired offhand at approximately 100 yards

You will be allowed to take as many sight-in shots as you feel necessary, then when ready, fire five shots for score.  The most hits in the fastest time wins in each category.

I hope you'll take this opportunity to bring out some of those guns you don't get to enjoy very often.  (Firearms and ammo must comply with the SASS rules for long range-range competitions - Shooters' Handbook page 29.)  We can continue this as part of our monthly Oak Ridge Outlaw match if there is interest.  Ideas or suggestions regarding scoring, course of fire, etc., are welcome.

I like you are throwing the timer into it.
Is there a certain time penalty for a miss?
5 hits  only get scored then time is the tie breaker?

Five hits whoops four or less.
Five hits faster whoops five hits slower.
Five hits in one minute whoops four hits in four seconds.

If nobody scores all five, then...

Four hits whoops three or less.
Four hits faster whoops four hits slower.
Four hits in one minute whoops three hits in three seconds.

Sight in as you feel necessary...when you're ready to shoot for score, those five shots are the ones that count.

Well, Lightning, El Carrera, Longshot Luther and I were able to hit the target fairly regular after a few range finding shots. After shooting big & close cowboy targets, an 18” x 24” target at 100yds seemed really small & a mile away, LOL.

Thanks for the clarification  jackalope.
I predict pistol cal rifle 5 hit 5.75 secs.
That should whoop anything.
