Just a Quick "Hello"
« on: May 18, 2020, 10:41:16 AM »
My SASS alias is John Kloehr. I just joined SASS this month. Tn Tombstone pointed me over here.

Just getting started on my Cowboy guns, been shooting some steel challenge, 3 gun, and bug for a while.

Looking forward to a fun and informative journey in yet another sport.

I live in Wears Valley so ORSA is a bit of a drive, but I did come to your open house event last fall. Look forward to attending a shoot as restrictions ease up. Might need to borrow some guns... And still need to buy some too, and ammo, and leather, and...

And I want to learn to load and shoot the Holy Black.
Have all my guns, now need to learn reloading. Anyone want to volunteer to be my local mentor?

A man should have goals,
Welcome to the fray, Just let us know what you are missing and I am sure we can provide the equipment.
It has not been announced yet but some of us plan on shooting in June and there should be a set-up day involved and I will give you a quick orientation class so you can shoot a stage a time or two. I will also try to answer any questions on rules that you might have.
Hope to see you in June.
By the way quite a few of our members live in Maryville and Wears Valley is only about 15 minutes further.

I've got a reasonable outfit, more than needed for open but not for the costume categories. I'll call that good though comments when I show up will be appreciated.

I have purchased (check will go out within a couple days, then bank delays, then FFLs) a pair of revolvers. They will come with belt, holsters, and a bandoleer. Will have to see if they fit.

Separately, on speculation the above is good and works, I ordered ammo for the revolvers.

No cowboy legal rifle (partial to 1873 but willing to try others), no cowboy shotgun* (partial to hammerless SxS but willing to try others. My lady has a cheap game-legal SxS but getting it open is a real pain (needs slicking). I can bring that with me and I will have to look if my shotgun shells are legal for your range.

I do see a trio of '97s for sale (from months ago on this site). My lady got excited when I showed her the post. She shoots too. I have not shot a '97. I would love to try one.

While I took the alias John Kloehr, I am not bound to follow history exactly; I don't even look like him LOL. And for my outfit, I played with how Hollywood might have outfitted him even though I am not trying to enter a costume class. I have read John Kloehr used an 1873 octagon barreled rifle in 44-40. I have no documentation yet on any revolvers (found one reference to him at least having one) or if he even had a shotgun.

So help in any of the above areas would be great. And if no loaners work out, I'm happy to just work with what I have and have fun and learn.

Howdy John,

I can't promise an official Oak Ridge Outlaw match in June.  I certainly hope the Covid outbreak situation is such that we can have one safely, but time will tell.  Stay tuned for further developments!

Yes, that is exactly what you need.  Everybody needs an 1873 in 44-40.  Or two...   :)

I’ve got a 45 cal. Rossi and a Stoeger SxS 12 ga. you can borrow. Message me ( see profile) if you would to use them since I am seldom logged in to this site. I also have a cart that I have been using. If you can’t get Preacher’ before the shoot, you can use it. I’m only two miles from the ORSA range, so getting them to you is no problem.

John, welcome to the most fun you can have with your clothes on. My home club is Wartrace Regulators and we host the Tennessee State Championship the 2nd full weekend in October each year. We also shoot on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays. Come and check us out sometime if you get a chance, let me know what guns you need and I'll make sure to round some up. If you come for a monthly shoot try to get there early and I'll give you a quick orientation that morning. If you're interested in Outlaw Tennessee Tombstone is the Original Outlaw and if you're wanting to learn about black powder you can't go wrong with Jackalope.  Hope to get to meet you sometime.

Randy

Wartrace keeps getting mentioned around the forums. Will have to check it out this summer.

Outlaw is interesting but I am a long way from attempting it, I want to develop my basic skills first. My first match a couple days ago proved to me once again there is no target so close or so big that it can't be missed.

On the last stage, I did manage a clean run by slowing down and focusing on the fundamentals.

My rifle is heading out on the stage to me today, my (lady's) shotgun works well enough, and I love my revolvers. I am in the market for a better shotgun but am going to do some minimal slicking on the one I brought.

Reloading is a bit out in time but I will make smoke at some point just because it pleases me.

Come on down to Wartrace and join us anytime. You can't go wrong shooting at Oak Ridge, Ocoee Rangers or Tennessee Mountain Marauders either.
